Hello welcome! Decided to take a minute this week to reflect on the last 4 and a half years of the show and do a little deep dive into what are, in my opinion, our top 10 most important episodes. "Important" meaning episodes that we talked about often that felt like game changers in different ways: Creative growth, audience growth, and personal growth. I'm sure many will feel different and have their own picks, but these are the ones that I believe Bo and I would both would have picked. Hope you enjoy this unique solo deep dive before we post back to back to back episodes of pure HEAT coming up. __________ HardLore: A Knotfest Series, fueled by Monster Energy. Let the chaos begin... In March of this year, Bo and I had an idea to let the viewers decide on our next bracket episode (since you're never happy with the bands we pick) and this was the result. The top 64 bands, as voted by YOU! Every matchup was random in our first ever truly unpredictable live tournament challenge. I'm joined by Joey Chiaramonte from Koyo, alongside Alec Faber & Taylor Young from Twitching Tongues/God's Hate to determine a winner in real time in our first ever in-person bracket episode. __________ HardLore: A Knotfest Series, fueled by Monster Energy. This week we're joined by vocalist Ross Farrar & guitarist Anthony Anzaldo of the great CEREMONY... From childhood friends to lifelong bandmates, we learn all about their individual introductions to punk and hardcore music and how that eventually lead to the fateful formation of now legendary bay area hardcore band, Ceremony. From the aggressive hardcore origins of their demo, first 7", and first 2 LPs, to their first big evolution and breakout Rohnert Park, all the way to their newest (and possibly best) album Tell Me Your Dream, we discuss everything in between, and the many "Gauntlets" in between that got us here. A thoroughly fun, fascinating inside look at what is truly one of the defining underground bands of the last 20+ years. This is easily one of the best conversations to ever happen on this show. We stopped by Trust Records HQ for this incredible chat the great Sammy Siegler, one of hardcore's most prolific drummers to ever grace the throne. We dive into Sammy's origin as the Godfather of Open Handed Lefty drummers in hardcore, his brief stint in Gorilla Biscuits, joining Side By Side at 11-12 years old, the Project X 7", joining Youth of Today as a longtime fan of the band, ALL things Judge, Chung King and Bringin' It Down and his later work in CIV, Rival Schools, Glassjaw and somehow Limp Bizkit of all things. We're appropriately joined by my main man Mike Cesario of Twitching Tongues, Disgrace, Pity Sex, Forced Order and more to round out this mini panel of unique drummers. Thanks to Sammy for joining us and sharing so much lore about so many great bands and records. Rest in peace to the universally beloved Andy "The Butcher" Williams of Every Time I Die, Atomic Rule and All Elite Wrestling. When it comes to leading by example, Andy was THE ultimate example to follow from the moment you met him. A beacon of kindness, the benchmark of cool, and an unbreakable pillar of love and support to everyone in his life. To know Andy was to love Andy, but more importantly, to know Andy was to feel loved by Andy. Andy was our second ever guest on HardLore, and technically our 3rd ever recorded episode. In his honor, we've upscaled this original episode to 4K to preserve this important conversation in the highest possible quality. We will love and miss Andy forever and I can't wait to hear the band that he and Bo will surely be working on. Goodbye my friend. Originally aired May 11th, 2022: "Colin and Bo welcome Andy Williams to the show to recount some of his favorite tour stories, from his early days touring with Buried Alive, his long tenure with Every Time I Die, and how he went…

We're joined by Pennsylvania's own ARTHUR RIZK! Longtime friend of the show and expert producer/engineer of all things extreme. Before discussing his work with bands like Blood Incantation, Power Trip, the Cavaleras, Cro-Mags, Kreator (and so many more)... We discuss Arthur's background as the once reluctant guitar player of legendary PA Hardcore band WAR HUNGRY, which lead to him finding his footing in the hardcore community in the early oughts as a young metalhead. These days Arthur is juggling his time as a musician between COLD WORLD, ETERNAL CHAMPION and SUMERLANDS when he's not manning the board for metal's biggest bands. We're also joined once again by guest co-host and another modern great in extreme music engineering, our very own Taylor Young. This is a fascinating deep dive into the world of hardcore, metal & punk production with two of the greatest minds currently doing it. For the very first time on HardLore, the interviewer becomes the interviewee… Myself, Brody King and Taylor Young of GOD’S HATE sit down with Anna Zanes, who up until just days ago was the editor in chief of Alternative Press, to deep dive into the development and intention of our brand new 12” EP, WON’T BE DISGRACED. In our own words… Won’t Be Disgraced is a dense, urgent collection of 3 songs driven by grief and the state of the greater hardcore community and beyond. Your mind can be your most powerful tool or a weapon used against you in your darkest moments, and the only guaranteed way to fail yourself and your loved ones is to quit. As the world continues to be destroyed from within by greed, religious extremism, and 24 hour news cycles of division and violations of human rights… It has never been more apparent that all we have is each other. Use your hate to make a change. Don’t be disgraced. Dedicated to Bohan Daniel Lueders. You can stream all three songs and pre-order the record now:…

HardLore is joined by Ryan George & Todd Jones of CARRY ON for a thorough deep dive into the complete history of the band, following their long awaited return this past June at Tied Down fest, and on the eve of their hometown return at Sound & Fury festival. From beginning as a metallic band called Persevere in Atascadero, California, to changing their name (and their many lineups), recruiting Todd, Corey Williams and Nick Jett in the band, finding their musical identity on their Roll With The Punches 7", refining it on their one and only album A Life Less Plagued, and Ryan infamously deciding to stop being straight edge, quickly ending the band... This is a fascinating window into a band Bo and I grew up listening to and loving for 20+ years, and it was honor to be in the room as these two shared so much about such a beloved band. We learn all about the origin of the band, which started from the ruins of Carry On, and visit a few key hotspots around our mutual hometown that played an integral role in Terror’s story. This is another piece of HardLore history in the making, as we’re joined by our first ever actor, the great Brooke Smith of Silence of the Lambs, Grey’s Anatomy, Bates Motel and more! I am once again joined, very appropriately, by Alec Faber of Holy Blade, Twitching Tongues & God’s Hate (and formerly of the Reel Deal podcast with… me) Long before she graced the silver screen as the iconic Catherine Martin in Silence of the Lambs , you could find her romping around all over the lower east side as one of the infamous WARZONE WOMEN, and a staple of 1980’s New York Hardcore. She spent the golden decade of NYHC taking legendary photos of bands like Agnostic Front, Bad Brains, Cro-Mags, Underdog and more, as documented in her incredible book Sunday Matinee. We get into her life as a legendary publicist’s daughter, befriending and falling out with the Cro-Mags, the informal formation of the Warzone Women, growing out of hardcore just as acting started to become more serious, her life changing by being in one of the…

We're joined his week to by Chris Conley, the founder, vocalist, and songwriter of Saves The Day for a comprehensive, career retrospective conversation… Featuring special guest co-host, Dr. Britty Drake of Pity Sex. In this true 3.5 hour epic, we start from the beginning and deep deep into Chris and STD’s entire history… From discovering punk through free tickets to a Rancid show, instinctively writing music the second he touched a guitar, Sefler’s humble origin and demo quickly evolving into Saves The Day, working with Steve Evetts and Equal Vision records, Lifetime’s influence on the early days and Can’t Slow Down, dropping out of school to tour on Through Being Cool, taking a leap into the mainstream with Stay What You Are, the harsh reality check of In Reverie, all the way up to feeling “resurrected” by his family in 2026 and finding new ways to handle his lifelong battle with depression. A true feast of information for any fan of the band, Chris, hardcore, punk, emo or beyond… Thank you to Chris and…

In this highly anticipated next chapter with one of our favorite bands, HardLore is finally joined by Jade Puget: the man who was instrumental in defining the iconic AFI sound. Featuring special guest co-host Alec Faber of God’s Hate, Twitching Tongues and Holy Blade. Following our legendary two part special with Davey Havok, we’re honored to share Jade’s side of the greater AFI story… Starting from the beginning with Jade discovering punk & hardcore in Ukiah, CA alongside his brother Smith, his days in Redemption 87, joining AFI and creating their definitive sound with his work on Black Sails in the Sunset, the surprising legacy of the All Hallows EP, his (and the band’s) frustrations with Nitro Records, the opportune timing of Art of Drowning, the cultural phenomenon of Sing the Sorrow and continuing success of Decemberunderground, the agony of Crash Love, the triumph of Burials, all the way to re-defining the AFI sound with Silver Bleeds the Black Sun. It was an honor and a joy to finally chat about all…

It is my tremendous honor to be joined by Patrick Walker of Warning and 40 Watt Sun for what is not only first ever non-print interview, but also HardLore's first ever 1 on 1 interview with a guest. In this appropriately intimate chat, we discuss his humble upbringing in Harlow, Essex UK.From the Jackson 5 and Tears For Fears to Revelation and Saint Vitus, we discover how Patrick's emotional connection with music flourished, and how he evolved into someone i've always considered to be one of the most personal and deliberate songwriters in the world. We learn the canonical standing of Warning and 40 Watt Sun in Patrick's point of view, the 20 year lasting legacy of "Watching From A Distance" and why now was finally time to return to Warning for "Rituals of Shame." After years of championing Patrick's work both on and off HardLore, it was an honor not only to have this chat, but to share more about someone whose work I admire so much. We’re ALSO joined by special guest co-host Dan Seely of King Nine, for his historic 5th full-length appearance on a HardLore episode. We start from the beginning of Pete’s nearly 40 year musical career, from making the “definitive American oi record” in Forced Reality, spearheading heavy hardcore in Connecticut with Higher Force, joining 100 Demons and writing the iconic self-titled record, his dark folk masterpiece that is Murmur’s The Boundless Black, all the way to now singing for Blood For Blood, and making 100 Demons’ first record in 22 years, Embrace the Black Light. We’re back… HardLore returns with a very special episode in honor of our late co-host, friend, and brother, Bo Lueders. Youth of Today was Bo’s favorite hardcore band of all time, and a constant through-line on this show since the beginning. Now, we’re finally joined by YoT/Shelter vocalist and trailblazer of straight edge as a movement: RAY CAPPO, for a 3.5 hour career retrospective interview. It doesn’t end there, as our first ever guest co-host is also extra special, we’re joined by Harms Way vocalist James Pligge (aka “Youth Crew James”) to round out this perfect tribute to our fallen friend. We start from the very beginning in Danbury, CT, where Ray and Violent Children got a historic head-start from an opportune visit to a radio station, discovering Hare Krishna through Harley Flanagan, meeting Porcell and evolving into Youth of Today and spreading straight edge all around the world, thoroughly BREAK DOWN the Youth of Today discography, founding Revelation AND Equal Vision Records, and the spiritual…

The time has sadly come for our final episode with our beloved late Bo Lueders... But very poetically, it is one where perhaps his passions and interests were all on display like never before, and that he describes as the day he's been waiting for his entire life: We visited the historic site in Dallas, TX where President John F. Kennedy was assassinated on November 22nd, 1963. We hit all of the local relevant hotspots in the area, he shares his theories & breaks down the historical facts (and fictions) we talk to a few lifetime Dallas locals about their views on one of the biggest news stories in American history... and then we walk off into the Sunset together, after 4 beautiful years of fulfilling our mission. This episode has nothing to do with hardcore music, or really music at all, but hardcore music brought us together to share our passions with the world and I'm so grateful that we got to capture this one for him as the perfect final sendoff. Stick around 'til the end. Love you Bo. _______________…

A few weeks ago, Bo & I had the special privilege of traveling to Nashville to get an inside look into the making of DRAIN's "...Is Your Friend" U.S. tour with No Pressure, Haywire and Secret World, via our friends at Monster Energy. This was our first OFFICIAL "assignment" on behalf of Monster since we started working with them officially in January, and it's a bittersweet example of what was to come of this dream partnership. We're so grateful for the memories that this has created since losing our beloved Bohan Lueders, for what has now become his penultimate HardLore episode ever. We spent several days with the band & their crew made up entirely of hardcore musicians from bands like Rotting Out, Cosmic Joke, One Step Closer and more to give you all an inside look at their gear & production. We hope you enjoy this unique episode that was a first and last for us as a duo, where Bo’s unique knowledge and passion for gear was on full display. Go see them near you soon. On April 2nd, 2026, the world lost Bo, and I lost my best friend. I will have much more to say over time... But this episode was something that, upon time of recording (January, 2026), we decided was too intimate to post. We reviewed the initial cut (thank you Steven), and feared that once something so personal was out there, we couldn't ever take it back. We decided to store it and save it for off chance that we might some day feel comfortable posting it. That day sadly came much sooner than either of us ever expected... This conversation, that I am now so thankful for, is a thorough look into our lives before & during the show. We came up with something like 100-150 questions before narrowing it down to this intimate conversation wherein we interviewed each other for the first, and last time. The goal was not only to get to know each other in ways we didn't, but share something new and unique with you all. Now, all things considered, it is an absolute miracle. I expected going back through this to be…

Welcome to HardLore.fm… Years in the making, we’re joined by longtime friend of the show Anthony Didio, vocalist of Vein and Fleshwater. We learn about his introduction to music, and how finding The Carrier early on lead to cutting his teeth at Anchor’s Up in the Merrimack Valley. We discover his evolution as a musician: starting Vein, making the landmark instant classic “Errorzone” and their mature follow up “This World is Going to Ruin You,” and ending suddenly shortly after upon the meteoric rise of Fleshwater immediately after their breakout debut LP “We’re Not Here to Be Loved” Now fresh off a tour with Deftones, their enormously ambitious sophomore LP “2000: In Search of the Endless Sky” and their biggest headlining tour ever, Anthony finally joins us for a long awaited (from us and from you) in-person sit down interview. Enjoy. HardLore: A Knotfest Series • Fueled by Monster Energy ______________ Shot, mixed and edited by Steven Grise (@iamoneonenineseven) Title sequence by Nicholas Marzluf (@marzluf)…

The time has come… After crowning the best 1980’s and 1990’s hardcore bands in heated tournament brackets, we are now crowning the best 2000’s (2000-2009) hardcore band of all time… We lived through this era so we’re finally qualified to weigh in (lol), so sit back, don’t relax, and be prepared to yell at the screen as we put 64 of the best bands of the new millennium head to head to battle it out. ____________________ Cool links: HardLore Official Website/HardLore Records store: https://hardlorepod.com Get 10% off GUILTY PARTY site-wide with code HARDLORE and grab some of our favorite clothing brands of all time: https://www.guiltyparty.co/ Get 15% off MILLS VINTAGE site-wide with code HARDLORE: https://www.millsvintageusa.com/ Get 15% off TIMELESS COFEE site-wide, including coffee subscriptions, cookies and cakes with code HARDLORE: https://timelesscoffee.com/ _______________ 00:00:00 - Start 00:03:36 - Converge vs. Rampage 00:05:24 - Bitter End vs. The Hope Conspiracy 00:06:35 - The First Call 00:09:12 -…

We're joined by one of the most iconic bass players in the history of hardcore music, Craig Setari AKA Craig Ahead of Straight Ahead and Sick of it All, and formerly of Youth of Today, Agnostic Front, Rest in Pieces and more. We talked in depth about the short history, but long legacy of Straight Ahead, including their upcoming reunion on April 25th, 2026, why he chose to quit Youth of Today, joining Agnostic Front for "One Voice," and ultimately his career defining role for over 30 years in SICK OF IT ALL. This is our first ever single full three hour sit down with a guest, and it’s for damn good reason. There are only so many pioneers of this genre, and Craig is one of the greatest to ever do it. We're finally joined by Floorpunch vocalist Mark Porter for an in-depth, comprehensive conversation about the entire history of one of the best straight edge hardcore bands ever. From the first time Porter witnessed someone Floorpunching at a show, their initial formation after being collectively frustrated at a Snapcase show while lamenting what hardcore had become by 1995, all the way through to their legendary "last show" at CBGBs with Breakdown and the Cro-Mags. Grab your copy of Shining Life Press' incredible Floorpunch book, follow along with this extensive firsthand account of Floorpunch from 1995-2000 (and beyond) and enjoy this amazing episode with a bucket list guest for us and a band we love. _______________________ Cool links: HardLore Official Website/HardLore Records store: https://hardlorepod.com Visit GUILTY PARTY, our favorite menswear store in North America and get 10% off site-wide with code HARDLORE: https://www.guiltyparty.co Try AG1 at DrinkAG1.com/HARDLORE to receive a free hat, flavor…

We're joined by alternative music legend Anthony Green, former vocalist of Circa Survive & Saosin and currently of L.S. Dunes. We sit down in person on the S.S. Neverender to discuss his life in music, from being in bands like Jeer at Rome and Audience of One as a teenager, to joining and quickly quitting Saosin after leaving his permanent mark on the band and an entire genre, starting Circa Survive immediately upon returning home, their recent (definitive) break up, the unexpected shock of being asked to join L.S. Dunes, and battling addiction through it all/balancing fatherhood for the last 15 years. Thank you to Anthony for joining us and to all of you for watching this incredibly honest, thorough discussion with a truly one of a kind artist. ______________________ Edited by Steven Grise (@iamoneonenineseven) • Title sequence by Nicholas Marzluf (@marzluf) HardLore: A Knotfest Series Join the HARDLORE PATREON to watch every single weekly episode early and ad-free, alongside exclusive monthly episodes:…

We're joined in Cozumel, Mexico for a very special, long awaited conversation with Coheed & Cambria vocalist/guitarist: the great Claudio Sanchez. We discuss Claudio's journey through music discovery and picking up the guitar long before Coheed, how a trip to Paris birthed "The Amory Wars" concept, the real life events and tragedies that inspired each album's concept, existing outside of genres and scenes, the immediate impact of "Welcome Home" and the writing/recording processes from "The Second Stage Turbine Blade" all the way to "The Father of Make Believe" -- a truly phenomenal episode with one of modern music's greatest guitar players and songwriters. Thank you to Claudio for joining us and for having us on the S.S. Neverender. We're joined by Nancy Barile, award-winning author of "I'm Not Holding Your Coat", an insightful chronicle of her life as an OG Philadelphia/Boston punk who lived through the golden age of hardcore music as it evolved in real time before her eyes. The Ramones, Bad Brains, Misfits, Minor Threat, Black Flag... You name it, she saw it. We talk about the legendary brawl in Kensington, booking the infamous "Gathering of the Tribes" show, cold calling CBGBs to get bands booked, and bumping elbows with just about every legendary figure in hardcore punk, and much more. Her husband, the late great Al Barile of SSD, was a pioneer of the straight edge movement and a name brought up often on HardLore throughout the years. He sadly passed away in April of 2025, and we talk all about their chance meeting, his impact on us, and share stories of Al through the years and look back at his perception of how straight edge and hardcore music have grown since his early days in SSD. An incredibly informative and cathartic…

Happy Halloween HardLore all you ghouls and goblins out there! To celebrate the best time of year properly, we've finally done it... HardLore's spooky spin-off is back... Welcome to HauntLore VII: Where we explore The very haunted Chicago Metro. This iconic Chicago landmark broke ground in 1927, but transitioned into an all purpose live music venue and dance club in 1979, and the basement's "Smartbar" was one of the earliest regular homes to Industrial music throughout it's infancy... But a few mysteries and tragedies haunt the walls of the Metro, where a dramatic suicide, the tragic death of a child, and a pair of disembodied legs are said to roam the building at night. Watch as we thoroughly explore the unseen corners of this nearly 100 year old build and learn the sad origins of the spirits within. Thanks to Joe, Kristy, Skunk, Three and the Metro for having us! HardLore is joined by AFI vocalist Davey Havok in person at Brain Dead Studios for part 2 of this landmark episode. The second half of this 4+ hour conversation contains all things AFI from 2003 to present day, starting with their historic launch into the mainstream with their 2003 masterpiece, and many people's gateway to punk, hardcore, etc: "Sing the Sorrow", the nearly impossible task of following it up with the 2006 smash hit "Decemberunderground", the sudden end of the commercial success with "Crash Love", the miracle of "Burials", and all things "Blood Abum", "Bodies" and beyond as we prepare for the arrival of their new album and biggest sonic departure yet, "Silver Bleeds the Black Sun..." via Run For Cover Records. We hope you enjoy part 2 of this incredible conversation and we thank Davey for his time, and Brain Dead for the space. Make up by the great and powerful Leah Carmichael. _____________________________ Edited by Steven Grise (@iamoneonenineseven) Title sequence by Nicholas Marzluf…

HardLore is joined by AFI vocalist Davey Havok in person at Brain Dead Studios for a landmark episode, weeks before the release of their new album "Silver Bleeds the Black Sun" on Run For Cover Records. Part 1 of this 4+ hour conversation begins with Davey's origin to punk/hardcore music, and by association, straight edge and veganism. We thoroughly dive into AFI's chronology, beginning in 1991 when he started the band with drummer Adam Carson in high school, to all the twists and turns before finally adding long time bass player Hunter Burgan, and the guitar player that would ultimately define the AFI sound: Jade Puget. We discuss "Answer That and Stay Fashionable", frustrations with Nitro Records throughout "Very Proud of Ya", "Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes" and beyond, fully coming into their own with "Black Sails in the Sunset", wearing their love of the Misfits on their sleeves on the "A Fire Inside" & "All Hallows" EPs, "The Art of Drowning" being their first record to chart on Billboard, his…
